Why Donald Trump is No Longer Eligible to be President
Being a convicted felon will interfere with being able to perform his presidential duties
There are a number of political reasons why Donald Trump should not be reelected as president (such as his intention to implement Project 2025). With his recent criminal trial it has become imperative that Trump must drop out of the race. If he was a person with a conscience who is genuinely concerned about the United States of America, he would have done so already. But he has refused to do so despite the fact that being president has become untenable for Trump.
Recently Donald Trump has been convicted of 34 felonies, which are actual crimes. As of this writing Trump is still staying in the race for the White House. Here's the problem: If Trump manages to win reelection, his job as president would be seriously hampered for a number of reasons that are completely apolitical. I briefly touched on this issue when I wrote a previous post on why the Republicans need to grow a spine like the Libertarians did and confront Trump before the election gets further out of hand.
I've since done some more research and here are a few apolitical reasons why a convicted felon like Donald Trump would have problems with being able to fulfill most of a president's official duties.
Reason 1: Convicted felons can't serve in the military. When you consider the fact that the president is also the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, that means that Trump won't be able to execute half of his duties.
Reason 2: Convicted felons can't have a security clearance, which means that they can't have access to classified information. That means that Trump won't be able to know what is going on in the world nor be able to make any decisions because he can't legally view the information.
Reason 3: While convicted felons can still own a US passport, they are prohibited from entering a number of countries, including many of America's strongest allies. Trump won't be able to travel to meet with heads of state or attend international conferences or international meetings held in a country that bans convicted felons from entry.
Reason 4: He would have a hard time overcoming the convicted felon hurdle so he could get his rights restored and he could execute his full duties as president. Donald Trump has said that he could pardon himself if he gets reelected. While something like this has never been tried before by any other president, even if Trump could self-pardon, he could only do it for federal crimes. He was convicted of a state crime in New York state. In that situation only the state governor can issue a pardon for a state crime. The current governor of New York is Kathy Hochul and she has indicated that she will not issue a pardon for Trump. So he's out of luck when it comes to getting a pardon.
Trump should withdraw from the race because he won't be able to execute his duties as president if he gets elected. But he refuses to do so as of this writing.
But there is one good piece of news. I came across this video which cited recent polls where a sizable number of Republicans and Independents have indicated that they will not vote for Trump because he is a convicted felon.
If these voters stick to their resolutions in November, then Joe Biden will win reelection. But then there will be a new hurdle based on the past: Donald Trump will once again claim that the election was stolen from him just like in the 2020 election and it could unleash all kinds of ugliness. We’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now we need to frequently refer to Trump as “convicted felon Donald Trump” just to remind people of who he really is and, hopefully, persuade them not to vote for him.
