This past weekend is not only the Martin Luther King Day holiday weekend here in the United States but it is also marks the 100th day since the Israel-Hamas War began. The timing of those protests have alienated the African American community.
Last Saturday there were protests for Palestine in various cities around the world. Here's one that took place in Stockholm.
According to the BBC News, the one in London drew thousands of protesters.
Saturday was also the day of that big massive protest in Washington, DC. It started off very peacefully.
The protest lasted until the night and it was initially just as peaceful as it was in the afternoon. By that point the crowd was outside of the White House.
Someone did shine an image of President Joe Biden with the label “Genocide Joe” on one of the nearby buildings. That wasn't too bad because at least it wasn't paint and you generally can't do any damage to a building with light.
But then suddenly there were posts saying that non-essential staff had been evacuated from the White House while there were snipers on the roof.
Suddenly the protesters began to throw bottles at the Secret Service agents who were guarding the White House.
But then there were reports of protesters breaching the reinforced gate and scaling the fence.
Seeing photos and videos of people trying to make a run for the White House invoked outrage. As someone who lives outside of DC I can understand why. Those scenes were too reminiscent of the Trump supporters storming the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021. The main differences were that Joe Biden was out of town that night and it looked like the Secret Service, the DC police, and other officials were able to prevent the rioters from going too far on the grounds of the White House. But it was so terrifying to see.
So law enforcement was able to stop that protest from turning into another January 6 but the protesters left behind lots of empty water bottles and other trash.
Today is Martin Luther King Day itself and there was a protest in New York City even though much of the US and Canada have been under this incredible Artic chill for much of the day and night. The day began with this speech calling for the destruction of Israel because it will lead to the destruction of capitalism.
The demonstrators marched together despite the frigid temperature.
From there it led to a demonstration in Union Square where protesters unfurled this giant Palestinian flag.
There were a couple of disturbing instances that happened during the march. One was where a pro-Palestine protester was beaten by the police.
The other was where the protesters, for some reason, decided to protest outside of the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
How on earth is protesting a bunch of cancer patients and their doctors in New York City even helping the Palestinians in Gaza? It doesn't make sense. Neither does ripping down flyers that have the photos and names of those who are still being held hostage by Hamas in Gaza.
By nighttime the protest had made its way to outside of the Museum of the City of New York, another nonsensical location that makes you question how is that even related to what the Palestinians in Gaza are currently going through.
I still think that this whole thing is a Kremlin psyop that's designed to convince people to vote for Trump in November. And I'm not the only one who thinks that way. I came across this article about how Steve Bannon and other people who are affiliated with either Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, or both have been setting up alliances with various far-right and far-left groups, which I personally found alarming. We also shouldn't ignore the reports about people being paid to protest in an effort to influence crowd size.
We're going to have to start becoming suspicious about the motivations of these movements, including even ones that we personally support, because there are a lot of bad actors who are using them as cover in an attempt to throw the US election to Donald Trump.
