The Failure of the Mainstream Media
They can't stop talking about Joe Biden's debate performance when he has an opponent who is a convicted felon who wants to be a dictator
If you’re relatively new to the issues related to Kremlin propaganda and how it’s affecting other countries (including the United States), I recommend reading some background posts I wrote that explains things in more detail along with links to other sites where you can read more to educate yourself.
A few months ago I wrote about how bad the corporate-owned mainstream media has become in their deferential treatment of Donald Trump.
Well the media went out in full force against Joe Biden after the first debate with Donald Trump. There are now calls for Biden to step aside and let someone else run for president. In some cases, there are people (mainly white men) who are demanding that the Democratic National Committee bypass Vice President Kamala Harris and pick someone completely new. As someone who has seen Harris perform pretty well at her current job and who thinks that she would make a very competent president, I think that it's obvious that the calls to bypass her in favor of someone else are based mainly on racism and sexism.
Having seen excerpts from that debate, I can see why it wasn't Joe Biden’s best night. It looks like he had an off-night. This can happen to the best of us, even a current sitting president.
While I can't deny that Biden is 81 years old, he still seems to have a sharp mind and he is physically healthy compared to Trump. I've seen pictures and videos of him riding a bicycle and going for long walks with his wife Jill.
As for me, I'm not ready to demand that Joe Biden throw in the towel just yet. If there is another debate in the future and he performs just as badly, then I'll begin to say that it's time for him to step aside and let Kamala Harris run for president.
Unfortunately, for the past week, the media has been chiming in that Joe Biden needs to drop out of the race immediately. The worst offender is The New York Times, with its frequent headlines calling for Biden to call it quits.
It's been a week since that debate and calls for Joe Biden to resign hasn't let up. And it's not only corporate-owned media that is attacking Joe Biden. Even liberals who should know better have gone all-in on attacking Biden. Former ESPN and MSNBC commentator Keith Olbermann have been on the “get rid of Biden bandwagon” on his podcast, whose episode titles have become a litany:
Biden Withdrawal May Be Inevitable
Pelosi Suggests Biden Take Test; He Stumbles Anew
I Do Not Know What the White House is Doing
Bulletin: Biden's Troubling “I Gave It My Best”
Then there's filmmaker Michael Moore (Roger & Me, Fahrenheit 9/11, Bowling For Columbine, Sicko) who is devoting Substack posts demanding that Biden must withdraw now.
We Are Asking the Wrong Question About Joe Biden on This Fourth of July
While the mainstream media is focused on Joe Biden's abysmal debate performance, they are ignoring or downplaying other stories that are just as important to the 2024 election as Joe Biden's poor debate performance. First there is The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 document, which I previously wrote about. Here's a recent example of how the mainstream media could care less about Project 2025 when Joe Biden's mental fitness needs to be constantly talk about ad nauseum.
Lately when I talk to people in real life, more and more of them are mentioning Project 2025. In fact, I'm more likely to hear about people being worried about Project 2025 than Joe Biden's terrible debate performance. I don't see either Keith Olbermann or Michael Moore talk about Project 2025 with the same fervor as when they talk about “OMFG! JOE BIDEN IS PAST HIS PRIME AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ASAP!” Most of the mainstream media have either ignored it or downplayed it.
It has taken people like actress Taraji P. Henson speaking about Project 2025 at the recent BET Awards to finally have that proposed plan enter the consciousness of mainstream America.
Keith Olbermann could have devoted episodes of his podcast to discussing different parts of the 900+ page document and how different segments of American society would be adversely affected. Michael Moore could have used his filmmaking skills to do a series of short videos about Project 2025 and explained how different people would be affected. Instead it had fallen to Taraji P. Henson to sound the alarm about Project 2025.
The public backlash against Project 2025 has been so extensive that even Donald Trump is claiming that he knows nothing about Project 2025 and he disagrees with parts of it. Yet there are former Trump Administration officials who actually helped with creating that document.
But that's not all, folks! There is another major story that was released this week that the mainstream media in the US has mostly ignored in favor of harping about Biden's debate performance. The personal papers that once belonged to Jeffrey Epstein, the late convicted pedophile and onetime close friend of Donald Trump, were released. Anyone can now access them right here. Among the revelations is graphic details of Donald Trump's alleged sexual abuse of girls as young as 13. Outrageously one would have to go to the foreign media, such as the British newspaper The Independent, in order to read any kind of coverage. I think the allegations that Trump may have raped underage girls is something that the American voters should know about just as much as how senile Joe Biden really is. I think there are plenty of people who would hate voting for an accused child rapist even more than hate voting for a convicted felon.
Of course neither Michael Moore nor Keith Olbermann have mentioned this story either. After all, to them, someone's poor debate performance is way more important than discussing the possibility that his opponent is an accused child rapist who is also a convicted felon.
However I should mention that there is one exception to the mainstream media focusing on Biden's poor debate performance and demand that he step aside. The Philadelphia Inquirer recently published this editorial where they called for Donald Trump to drop out of the race. As this excerpt states:
The debate served as a reminder of what another four years of Trump would look like. More lies, grievance, narcissism, and hate. Supporters say they like Trump because he says whatever he thinks. But he mainly spews raw sewage.
I couldn't agree more! Kudos to The Inquirer for breaking from the rest of the mainstream media and bluntly telling the truth about why Donald Trump has no business running for president again. History will look far more kindly on The Inquirer for bravely stating what really needs to be said than for other publications who are more deferential to Donald Trump in their coverage in pursuit of ratings, sales, profits, and having unfettered access to Trump if he gets reelected in November.
