The Donald Trump-Kamala Harris Debate
Trump actually repeated the rumor about Haitian immigrants in Ohio eating pets
Today is the anniversary of the brutal 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. As this meme puts it succinctly, in 25 years only two men have organized terrorist attacks against the United States. One is Osama bin Ladin for being the mastermind of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The other is Donald Trump for his role in the riot at the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
Then there is this compilation of the most bizarre things that Donald Trump has ever said about 9/11.
Today Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden are in New York commemorating that sad occasion.
The night before Kamala Harris and Donald Trump met in Pennsylvania for their first debate together. Harris really outshined Trump, which shouldn't be surprising considering that Harris is a former prosecuter and Trump is clearly showing signs of cognitive decline that is similar to what happened to his late father, Fred Trump. Harris bluntly told Trump that dictators prefer him because they can manipulate him with flattery and favors.
She really burned Trump on his positions regarding NATO and how he favors Russia in the war against Ukraine. Harris pointed out that Poland is among Russia's targets and she challenged him to explain his policies to the 800,000 Polish Americans who live in Pennsylvania.
The one part of the debate that should bury Trump as a viable candidate once and for all came when Harris took advantage of Trump's current obsession with crowd sizes at his rallies. Trump not only took the bait but he also repeated that crazy right-wing rumor about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio eating pets, which I wrote about yesterday. To say that this next clip is a train wreck is an understatement.
That statement from Trump about pet-eating Haitian immigrants should be enough to end his attempt to become president again. But Trump has been given so many breaks by the corporate-owned mainstream media, the Republican Party, and his most devoted followers that it's not even funny. I still remember when Trump openly made fun of a New York Times reporter's disability back in 2016.
Had Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Mitt Romney, John Kerry or even George W. Bush done something like this it would've been enough to sink their political careers. Not only was Trump given a free pass but he was also elected president that year.
While I think Harris won that debate, it doesn't mean that Trump is still not a threat to the future of American democracy. That Haitians eating pets story is still being spread online by people like Trump's own son Donald Trump Jr., who tweeted “Save our pets!!!!” and included this ludicrous AI graphic of his father riding a cat with a high-powered rifle in tow who is leading a gang of kittens in the woods.
We still need to vote in overwhelming numbers so that Trump will never set foot in the Oval Office ever again because the mainstream media and the Republican Party aren't going to do anything to stop Trump. As Judge Bob Orr puts it, “I was a Republican for 45 years. The fact that this mean-spirited, demented fool Trump is the nominee of the party for three straight election cycles is just unfathomable.”
