What to Look Forward to This Week
The DNC Convention in Chicago, Free Palestine protests also in Chicago, expect more Donald Trump meltdowns, and a Tesla Cybertruck reached Chechnya in defiance of US sanctions
Starting tomorrow the Democratic National Committee Convention will begin in Chicago. While it's very likely that Kamala Harris will become the formal nominee without a hitch, things won't be 100 percent smooth, as this next graphic indicates below. There are two protests scheduled outside of the convention that are both against what is currently going on in Palestine with Israel and Hamas fighting each other.
I've seen some Democrats complaining on Twitter/X about how the pro-Palestinian protesters are protesting outside of the DNC Convention but had ignored the earlier RNC Convention. That is not correct. As this video below shows, there were protesters in Milwaukee outside of the RNC Convention that were a coalition of the Free Palestine movement, LGBTQ rights, abortion rights, and workers’ rights.
There are fears that the protests could be a repeat of what happened when the DNC last held its convention in Chicago in 1968. The fallout from the anti-Vietnam War protests that turned violent at that convention led to the election of Republican nominee Richard Nixon as president just a few months later. While the concerns are justified to some extent, this BBC News story explains why the 2024 DNC Convention in Chicago won't be a repeat of the 1968 DNC Convention in Chicago.
However the Chicago police aren't taking any chances, as this NBC News video shows.
Donald Trump is still having a hard time dealing with the fact that Kamala Harris is now his main competitor and not Joe Biden. Like I wrote before, Trump seems incapable of pivoting his campaign to taking on a new opponent. He even spoke about his unrealistic fantasy where Biden would go to the upcoming DNC Convention in Chicago demanding to be nominated for president then announcing that he will next debate Trump. Expect Trump to throw a series of hissy fits on Truth Social this coming week about Kamala Harris being declared the Democratic candidate for president.
Meanwhile on the other side of the world in Chechnya, the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov made this video where he showed off his latest acquisition—a Tesla Cybertruck that has a machine gun mounted on top.
Considering the fact that Kadyrov is a loyal ally of Vladimir Putin and the fact that the US has sanctions against Kadyrov and his family, it's pretty fishy that Kadyrov got a Cybertruck from America. Whether Elon Musk and Tesla gets investigated on how a Cybertruck was delivered to Kadyrov despite the sanctions remains to be seen.
