Venezuela: A Harbinger of Things to Come for the US?
Another issue that the mainstream media in America is ignoring
If you’re relatively new to the issues related to Kremlin propaganda and how it’s affecting other countries (including the United States), I recommend reading some background posts I wrote that explains things in more detail along with links to other sites where you can read more to educate yourself.
Most people in the US seem to be focused on either Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign suddenly becoming a unifying force for everyone who is opposed to Donald Trump or the Summer Olympics in Paris. But there was an event this past weekend in Venezuela that we all need to start paying attention to because it could potentially affect the US (and possibly other countries) in the long run.
This past weekend Venezuela had its election for president. For the past 25 years it has been ruled by a party that initially claimed to be a reform-oriented left wing party but became more authoritarian and more pro-Putin as time went on. The current leader, Nicolas Maduro, is just as enthralled by Vladimir Putin as Donald Trump is.
While the election has been discussed on social media and the foreign media has covered the election, the US corporate-owned media feels that it's not even worth covering. Yet they should be covering it because in recent years many of those who have immigrated into the US—both legally and illegally—have come from Venezuela. If the recent election turns out to be a disaster, expect more Venezuelan refugees at the US border trying to get in.
This year there is a possibility that another political party could take over and finally oust Maduro from office. But there are obstacles. First there is the support that Maduro gets from Vladimir Putin. Recently there are Western pro-Putin people who have suddenly started paying attention to Venezuela. Just a few days before the election former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters made this video urging Venezuelans to vote for Maduro. This is a rock star who was born in the UK, has homes in the UK (Hampshire) and the US (Long Island), and who doesn't have any homes in Venezuela (according to the Wikipedia) telling people in Venezuela, a country he does not even live in, how they should vote. He also made the video in English, which is not spoken in Venezuela.
Then the Gen-Z Lord Haw-Haw Jackson Hinkle arrived in Venezuela under the guise of observing the election while announcing that Maduro is going to get re-elected.
Hinkle is also meeting with a few Russians while he's hanging around Venezuela.
He may be claiming that he's observing the election but the reality is that he's only there on behalf of his Kremlin overlords where he's just going to parrot whatever they tell him to say. You won't ever hear any reporting about any story that's slightly unfavorable to Maduro from Jackson Hinkle. He's even claiming that the Venezuelan election is free and fair while echoing Donald Trump's claim that the US election was stolen.
As for Hinkle's claim that the election in Venezuela was free and fair, that one is in dispute. Nicolas Maduro was declared the winner but there are discrepancies surrounding that election. His opponent, Maria Corina Machado, was prohibited from running so she had a surrogate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, run instead. Some polling stations didn't even open on that day, which led to protests and clashes with the local authorities. This video from Under the Desk News includes disturbing footage of voter suppression by the armed authorities. The leaders of other countries have openly questioned how free and fair this election really was in Venezuela.
On top of it, Maduro has said that he would win the election “by hook or by crook.” That doesn't sound like the words of a person who would honor the result of the election no matter what the outcome is.
The Venezuelan people aren't taking Maduro's actions lightly. Late yesterday a huge number of people converged on the presidential palace in Caracas to protest Maduro's claim that he won the election. This thread on Twitter/X shows videos of people tearing down statues of Hugo Chavez in cities, towns, and villages all over Venezuela. Whether this mass protest turns into a Venezuelan version of the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity remains to be seen as of this writing.
For years far-leftists in the West have idolized Nicolas Maduro and his late predecessor, Hugo Chavez, because they believe that Chavez and Maduro had created some kind of a workers' paradise in Venezuela. These far-leftists were (and still are) even willing to ignore any election discrepancies if their preferred leader could continue to stay in power and provide that wonderful fantasy paradise for the benefit of the poor and working class.
If Venezuela is really such a lovely utopia, why is it that Venezuelans have left in far greater numbers than the Syrians and Ukrainians who have left their countries? If Venezuela is so wonderful with unlimited opportunities for everyone you'd think there would be a significant number of poor and low-income Americans who would decide to sell most of their possessions so they could raise enough money to migrate there in the hopes of improving their economic fortunes, just like the number of poor and low-income Europeans who migrated to the US during the Industrial Revolution. But you don't see that kind of migration because Venezuela doesn't really have much to offer any potential immigrants to their country.
If this prescribed electoral victory of Nicolas Maduro actually holds, expect more drama coming from Venezuela that will cause chaos and make Maduro's BFF Vladimir Putin very happy. Not only will it lead to more Venezuelans fleeing the country, Maduro could even make neighboring Guyana's life miserable by making good on his threat to annex the Guyana Esequiba from Guyana, which will cause that country to suddenly lose two-thirds of its territory. That could lead to further chaos and a possible war that will make the refugee crisis worse.
And if all that happens in the next few months, that could be yet another attempt to swing the US election in Donald Trump's favor, just like the October 7 terrorist attack in Israel by Hamas and the subsequent Israeli bombing of Gaza. I wouldn't be surprised if Vladimir Putin and Nicolas Maduro are working out a timetable for Venezuela to make its move against Guyana.
If all that weren’t enough, expect Donald Trump and his MAGA movement to look at Venezuela for inspiration on how to claim victory in November, despite the actual election results, and try to stage a coup to regain power in the US.
