The Lies About FEMA's Response to Hurricane Helene That Refuse to Go Away
Disinformation credit goes to Kremlin sycophants Elon Musk and Donald Trump
If you’re relatively new to the issues related to Kremlin propaganda and how it’s affecting other countries (including the United States), I recommend reading some background posts I wrote that explains things in more detail along with links to other sites where you can read more to educate yourself.
Ever since Hurricane Helene has struck the South last weekend FEMA and other government agencies on the federal, state, and local level have been doing everything possible to rescue people and try to clean up the damage that the hurricane has wrought. You wouldn't know this if you only listen to certain propagandists who keep on claiming that the government is doing nothing to help the hurricane victims. It's been a week since Helene came and went and the Kremlin sycophants are still at it with spreading outright lies, starting with Donald Trump's claim that a billion dollars was stolen from FEMA to use for illegal migrants. Former Representative Joe Walsh retweeted that tweet about Trump’s latest lie saying to watch for Elon Musk to spread this lie then watch the other sycophants to do the same. As Walsh writes, “And before you go to bed tonight, 42% of the country will firmly believe this lie.”
Walsh is correct about Elon Musk because Musk retweeted this Gunther Eagleman tweet about FEMA funding illegal aliens at the expense of Hurricane Helene victims while adding “Good question.”
Gunther Eagleman is a notorious pro-Trump and pro-Putin propagandist who spews stuff on Twitter/X on a regular basis. You can learn more about him on The Owl Telegram channel here and here.
Various government officials have tried to set the record straight about what is really going on in the hurricane ravaged areas. This statement from a man named Kevin Corbin who actually spoke to local North Carolina Republican representatives made this Facebook post asking people to stop spreading conspiracy theories about FEMA because it is distracting people from doing their jobs to help the affected people.
Even US Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg is spending time on Twitter/X denying that FEMA is shutting down airspace and blocking aid from reaching people.
You might think that this is just blather on Twitter/X that should be ignored. The problem is that what is tweeted on Twitter/X doesn't stay on Twitter/X. People may spread these untrue messages on other social media platforms. They may send this false information to people they know via email, phone, or text message. They may even tell this false information to people in real life. The whole idea is to piss off enough gullible Americans that they will vote for Donald Trump next month as a protest against that fake story about how the Biden-Harris Administration isn't doing anything for the hurricane victims.
We need to be hypervigilant about any false information that is going viral. Over the past month these propagandists have spread false information about Haitian immigrants eating pets and FEMA not rescuing hurricane victims. The closer we get to Election Day, expect more garbage like this spreading from Twitter/X. It's up to us to sound the alarm whenever another Kremlin-backed fake story starts making the rounds.
