Yesterday was Election Day in the United States. It's called an off-year election because fewer states have their elections and, if they do, they tend to focus more on local areas. For example, my home state of Maryland tended to focus more on municipal elections in a number of towns, including the one where I live, where we voted for those running for mayor and the city council.
But this year's off-year elections were more important because legalized access to abortion and birth control was the big issue along with some politicians who are aligned with Donald Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
The big obstacle is The New York Times’ infamous recent poll where the results seemed to favor Donald Trump getting reelected to the White House next year. Trump's niece, Mary Trump, has a lot to say about that poll on her own Substack that's worth reading.

The good news is that this year more Americans have gone to the polls to make their own statement on how they feel about the extremist Make America Great Again movement and their extreme position on abortion and birth control. The fact that this even happened in conservative states like Ohio is very heartening.

Could it be the beginning of the end of MAGA, which is the greatest threat to American democracy ever? I hope so. If American voters can keep up this level of energy this time next year, we could permanently vanquish the MAGA movement to the dustbin of history, where it belongs. Right now I'm imagining Trump's biggest benefactor Vladimir Putin crying over the results of last night's election since it's a preview of what could happen next year. Cry harder, Putin!
My blog is free to subscribe but if you want to make a comment, you’ll need to take out a paid subscription, which only costs $8 per month. I know it costs as much as a subscription to Twitter/X Blue but at least I have no connections with anyone even remotely connected to Vladimir Putin’s government. ;-)
