Juanita Broaddrick: Portrait of a Tankie Vatnik
From claiming to be a rape victim to supporting accused rapists
If you’re relatively new to the issues related to Kremlin propaganda and how it’s affecting other countries (including the United States), I recommend reading some background posts I wrote that explains things in more detail along with links to other sites where you can read more to educate yourself.
I'm going to start this off with a trigger warning because I will be discussing rape a lot. That's because that topic is unavoidable due to the profile of this particular tankie vatnik.
Juanita Broaddrick's biggest claim to fame is her allegation that in 1978 future US president Bill Clinton had raped her in a hotel room in Little Rock, Arkansas while he was running for Arkansas governor. She had never reported the alleged rape to the authorities and, at one point, she denied in sworn testimony that anything had ever happened between her and Bill Clinton. She kept that allegation a secret for many years until 1999 when she gave an interview on NBC's Dateline show detailing what Clinton allegedly did to her. Which means that if Bill Clinton really raped her when she denied it in sworn testimony, Broaddrick committed perjury. Bill Clinton has denied Broaddrick's allegation. You can read the details about that alleged rape and make up your own mind.
Initially Broaddrick's allegation had angered feminist icons like Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem because they viewed her as someone who is making up a fake story to attack their biggest ally who was serving in the White House at the time. In the years since that 1999 interview there have been people who took a second look at her story and felt that she should be believed such as Ronan Farrow, the reporter whose expose of Harvey Weinstein led to the rise of the #MeToo movement and brought about that powerful Hollywood mogul's downfall to the point where Weinstein is now serving prison time for rape.
The biggest irony about Broaddrick's claim that Bill Clinton had raped her is that she has attached herself to another former president who has also been accused of rape—Donald Trump.
It all started in 2016 when Trump ran for president against former First Lady Hillary Clinton. Trump used Broaddrick in an ad that focused on the rape allegation against Clinton's husband which featured this tagline: “Is Hillary really protecting women?” When Trump was scheduled to debate Clinton in St. Louis, the Trump campaign gave Broaddrick a free trip to St. Louis where she sat in a prime seat in the debate hall.
In the years since that 2016 US presidential election she has been a loyal supporter of Donald Trump. She issued this tweet calling Trump and Tucker Carlson two heroes who are working tirelessly to save America while urging people to please pray for their safety.
She tweets photos and videos of Donald Trump every chance she gets.
Including ones that were AI generated.
She also believes that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.
She stands by Trump despite the fact that he has also been accused of rape and sexual assault by numerous women. In fact she seems to believe or disbelieve alleged rape and sexual assault victims based on the political beliefs of the alleged perpetrator. In 2020, when a former Senate staffer named Tara Reade accused then-Democrat Senator (later President) Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, Broaddrick came out in support of Reade and called her “a brave woman.”
But when writer E. Jean Carroll accused Donald Trump of raping her in the dressing room of a Bergdorf Goodman department store in New York City in the mid-1990s, Broaddrick did to Carroll what prominent feminists did to her when she accused Bill Clinton of raping her—she attacked Carroll's credibility and insinuated that she lied about her claim that Trump raped her. She has called Carroll a nutcase, a kook, and an embarrassment to real sexual assault victims. She has also called for Carroll to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Her views on who she considers to be “real” rape victims aren't the only problematic stances that she has taken. Even though Broaddrick is a retired nurse she is a staunch anti-vaxxer. In fact, she was banned from Twitter in April, 2022 for questioning the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine while claiming to be unvaccinated. Her Twitter account was reinstated just a few months later when Elon Musk purchased Twitter. Ever since then she has continued with her crusade against vaccines.
She seems to be a science denier in general. She issued this tweet expressing skepticism that Hurricane Helene actually made its rampage through the Appalachian area of North Carolina by asking “How is this even possible??? Things to ponder on. How does a ‘hurricane’ travel 800 + miles on dry ground dumping 40 trillion gallons of rain and most of it at 2,000 + feet of elevation in NC.”
At times she has shared Photoshop-altered racist images such as this one of a statue of police brutality victim George Floyd aiming a gun at a statue of a pregnant woman.
If George Floyd had been white she probably would have never shared that image.
She has been known to attack people based on their looks. She attacked former Rep. Liz Cheney by sharing a Photoshop-altered image of Miss Piggy dressed as Cheney.
She has insulted former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for his weight by tweeting “During the GOP debate...when moderator said, “Let's talk about the elephant in the room” (Trump)…I wonder how many people thought he was referring to Chris Christie?”
After she called former First Lady Michelle Obama a “man” someone had put up side-by-side photos showing recent photos of Broaddrick and Obama and, well, if I were in her shoes I wouldn't go around insulting other people's looks.
She seems to be angry at Barack and Michelle Obama for having a loving and thriving marriage while tweeting “This is so fake. Everything about the Obamas is fake.” According to her Wikipedia page Broaddrick has been married and divorced twice. Could it be that she's simply jealous of the Obamas for having a marriage that has lasted longer than either of her two?
As for Russia and Ukraine, she's definitely not a fan of the latter, especially Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. She frequently complains about the US helping to provide arms and humanitarian aid to Ukraine and she has accused President Zelenskyy of being a grifter.
She has told Senator Lindsey Graham to go straight to hell for his support of Ukraine while implying that he gets kickbacks for doing so.
She claimed that President Zelenskyy bought a casino with US taxpayers’ money.
She wrote “Zelensky's term ended yesterday. He is now officially an unelected Dictator.”
Never mind the fact that under the Ukrainian constitution elections can't be held when the country is under marital law. The only reason why Ukraine is currently under marital law is because the country is being invaded by Russia, a convenient fact that Broaddrick omits.
She also shared a video from what was supposed to be from the days when Zelenskyy was an entertainer which shows a guy in a skintight outfit wriggling his entire body where everything was shaking, including his private parts. She included this caption: “This dude wants more of your hard earned money. What do you tell him?”
The only problem is that the performer is not the future Ukrainian president. It turned out to be footage of an Argentine belly dancer from 2006.
When it comes to Vladimir Putin, she seems to like him better. She shared this transphobic meme implying that Russian tanks are some how more manly and US tanks are more trans (complete with they/them pronouns) while writing “No longer a meme. Real life.”
She was among those who eagerly awaited Tucker Carlson's controversial interview with Putin earlier this year.
A self-proclaimed rape survivor who's fascinated with Russia and Putin is ironic considering the number of Ukrainians who have been raped as a result of the Russian invasion of that country—which Putin ordered. But she does the Kremlin's bidding on a frequent basis, such as repeating that debunked propaganda about how President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris aren't doing anything to help the victims of Hurricane Helene because they don't have the money because they sent it all to Ukraine while including what looks like an AI generated picture of a sad eyed crying girl wearing a lifesaver vest clutching a sad eyed puppy while standing on a boat in the middle of a heavy rain storm.
A day after I saw that tweet I found another tweet that confirmed that, yes, that picture was AI generated—there's an unnatural sheen and weird details like the black patch on the hand.
Like other Western propagandists I've featured in this Substack, I don't follow Juanita Broaddrick at all. Her tweets gets into my newsfeed because Elon Musk is into amplifying right-wing voices regardless of whether you really follow them or not. If seeing her tweets become too much for you to endure, I can only suggest that you mute and block her.
Broaddrick is 81 years old as of this writing. You'd think that she would use however many years she has left on this planet to do something more constructive with her life than spending a huge amount of time on her phone or computer spreading Kremlin and MAGA Republican propaganda. She could spoil her grandchildren or take a walk in a local public park or pursue a fun hobby (like music or gardening) or do anything other than sticking up for Donald Trump and his MAGA movement while also promoting Kremlin propaganda.
